Grammy winning band, The Rebirth Brass Band, a New Orleans blujafunk group that combines the second-line New Orleans brass band tradition with soul, funk, jazz and hip hop, will play the High Dive in Gainesville tonight.

Formed in 1983, the eight-piece band won a Grammy in 2012 for Best Regional Roots album with 2011’s album Rebirth of New Orleans. The band has released 15 studio albums since its inception.

Phil and Keith Fraizer formed the instrumental band in 1983 and many past and present members of the band are related by blood or by marriage.

The band’s lineup currently consists of Phillip “Phil” Frazier (tuba),
Keith Frazier (bass drum), Derrick Tabb (snare drum), Chadrick Honoré (trumpet), Glenn Hall (trumpet), Gregory Veals (trombone), Stafford Agee (trombone), Vincent Broussard (saxophone).

President Barack Obama is a big fan and during the commemoration of 10 years after Hurricane Katrina nearly destroyed New Orleans, Obama said one thing he’s looking forward to after his presidency is going to see the band live in New Orleans at their legendary Tuesday night gig at the Maple Leaf.

Tickets are $18 and $20. Doors open at 8 PM and the show starts at 9 PM.
